Brian Bannister turned in another strong performance and was backed by three two-out RBI doubles, giving the Binghamton Mets a 3-1 win over the New Britain Rock Cats at New Britain Stadium Wednesday. It was Binghamton's second win in a row over the Rock Cats, and their fourth win in their last five games.

In the third, the B-Mets (34-34) took a lead they wouldn't relinquish. With two out, New Britain starter Matt Yeatman walked Anderson Hernandez. Wayne Lydon followed with a double to right, scoring Hernandez for a 1-0 lead. Bobby Malek was next up against Yeatman (2-5) and he also doubled to right, scoring Lydon and putting Binghamton up by two.

New Britain (29-43) got some help from the B-Mets for their only run of the night. With one out in the fifth, Bannister (9-1) walked Bryan Kennedy and yielded a single to James Tomlin, putting runners at first and second. Tommy Watkins then grounded one to third-baseman Jay Caligiuri, who stepped on third for an out, but threw wildly to first for an error, allowing Tomlin to score, cutting Binghamton's lead to 2-1. The unearned run was the only run given up in seven innings by Bannister, who struck out six and became the Eastern League's first nine-game winner.

Binghamton plated an insurance run in the eighth. After Mike Jacobs drew a one-out walk and Jeff Duncan flied out, Aarom Baldiris doubled off the base of the centerfield wall, scoring Jacobs and putting Binghamton up by two.

Anderson Garcia pitched a scoreless ninth, picking up his third save in as many chances.

Thursday, Binghamton wraps up its series at New Britain with an afternoon game. Ken Chenard (5-6, 4.61) will start for Binghamton against Daylan Childress (0-3, 8.85) of New Britain. The first pitch is slated for 11:50 from New Britain Stadium with the radio broadcast on Talk 1360 WYOS starting at 12:05.
