Lubbock Renegades News Release

LUBBOCK, TX: November 6, 2007 - Two more players from last season's Lubbock Renegades squad have advanced to the Arena Football League (AFL), as the league announced that defensive lineman Ken Scott has agreed to terms with the Tampa Bay Storm and defensive back James McCoy has agreed to terms with the Kansas City Brigade.

"There is certainly a Texas Tech connection with Ken," said Lubbock Renegades Head Coach Rodney Blackshear. "Tampa Bay Storm Head Coach Tim Marcum and Texas Tech Safeties Coach Carlos Mainord have a coaching background together, and there have been many former Red Raiders occupying roster spots on their (Tampa Bay) roster. Ken's hard work has been noticed by coaches that have a pipeline to the AFL, and it is paying dividends for his own future. As for James, he attended a workout with Kansas City that caught the attention of their coaches because he worked hard and the workout consisted of drills that Robert Hall (Renegades Defensive Coordinator) had already trained him to excel at."

Scott joined the team last season for his first professional season and was recognized as the Renegades "Defensive Lineman of the Year." The former Texas Tech Red Raider finished the season with 11 tackles (4 solo) in 15 games played. Scott, a 6'3" 330-pound lineman from Newton, Texas, co-led the team in sacks (4), while also ranking tied for second on the club in tackles for loss (5.5) and second overall in fumble recoveries (2). His two fumble recoveries each led to touchdowns to lead the team in defensive touchdowns. Scott missed one game during the season and it was to attend minicamp with the Buffalo Bills. He joins a Storm roster that recently had Tech connections with B.J. Symons and Khalid Naziruddin filling roles for the Storm. Scott was with the Red Raiders from 2003-2006 and combined to play in 47 games. His career numbers with Texas Tech include 108 tackles (63 solo), 8.5 tackles for a loss, 3.5 sacks and 2 forced fumbles.

McCoy heads to Kansas City following two seasons spent in the af2. The 5'10" 183-pound defensive back spent the 2006 season with the Albany, Georgia based South Georgia Wildcats, where he led the Wildcats with 96.5 tackles (5th in the af2) and an af2 co-leading four fumble recoveries. He also forced four fumbles, which ranked tied for third in the af2. McCoy joined the Renegades during training camp last season following a trade with the Florida Firecats. The South Mills, North Carolina native appeared in eight games with the Renegades last season and finished the season with 44.5 tackles (37 solo) and a team co-leading three interceptions. His 44.5 tackles and 37 solo tackles each ranked third on the club. McCoy also ranked third in pass breakups (9) and all-purpose yards with 831. He returned 31 kickoffs for 700 yards and a touchdown, and had four missed field goal returns for 86 yards. The kickoff return for a touchdown was the only Renegades kickoff return for a score last season (first and only in franchise history thus far). The North Carolina A&T product has combined for 141 tackles (120 solo), 5 interceptions, and 1,182 all-purpose yards in 24 af2 career games.

The advancement of Scott and McCoy to the AFL places three players from last season's Renegades roster that have advanced to the AFL. Last week, Alvance Robinson became the first Renegades player to advance to the AFL, as he signed with Grand Rapids.
