Amarillo Venom News Release
The Amarillo Dusters announced today that Linebacker/Defensive End Jon Sessler has signed a contract with the Cleveland Franchise of the AFL. Cleveland Browns legendary Quarterback Bernie Kosar is one of the co-owners of the new franchise, which will begin play in the AFL in 2008. Sessler becomes the 10th member of the Dusters organization to make the jump to the AFL, CFL, or NFL. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Sessler was a 4-year starter at Kent State from 2002-2005, and was dominant for the Dusters as a rookie in 2007, appearing in 15 games. He finished third on the team with 44 tackles, and 12 tackles for loss. He was 7th overall in af2 with 11 sacks. He forced 3 fumbles, recovered 2 fumbles, blocked 2 kicks (returning two for scores) and batted down 3 passes as well.
"After I hurt my knee during my senior year, all the scouts said that I was done" said Sessler. "I wasn't ready to give up, and worked hard to rehab my knee. The Dusters were the first team to give me a chance to play professionally, and I'm glad that I took it. All that hard work paid off. I'm glad that I can play in front of my family in Ohio and I want to help the team win the Arena Bowl in 2008."
The Amarillo Dusters will begin their 4th season in af2 when training camp begins next March. 2008 season tickets are on sale now. For a limited time, you can purchase three season tickets and get a fourth one free, as well as a free membership to the Fazoli's Founders' Club.
