LUBBOCK, TX: November 6, 2007 - The Lubbock Renegades of the arenafootball2 (af2) have agreed to terms with their first player for the 2008 season, as the club has been assigned returning lineman Ronald Redmond by the af2. The announcement was made Tuesday afternoon in conjunction with the City of Lubbock Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting to officially open the Renegades new offices located at 4321 Marsha Sharp Freeway.
Redmond, a 6'7" 373-pound lineman from Dallas, Texas, returns to the Renegades after earning the team's "Offensive Lineman of the Year" honor. He was part of an offensive line that allowed Lubbock to be highly talented in the air and on the ground. The first-year af2 lineman helped Lubbock produce the league's fifth best offense with the tenth best pass offense and the National Conference's leading rush offense (third in the league). Lubbock's offensive line also ranked tied for tenth in sacks allowed. Redmond, who spent one of his 14 games played splitting time on defense, also produced a tackle. He also caught two passes for 18 yards as an eligible receiver on offense. Prior to turning pro, "Big Red" competed collegiately at Ranger Junior College (Ranger, Tx) in 1999 and eventually transferring to Oklahoma Panhandle State University, which is a Div. II program in Goodwell, Oklahoma. He completed a degree in Health while in school. The Lancaster High School product received several accolades as an offensive tackle in college and in high school.
The assignment of Redmond places him as the first name on the Renegades 2008 roster. Renegades Head Coach Rodney Blackshear attended the "Ribbon Cutting" event today to comment about the addition of Redmond.
