
Two Late Rallies Fall Short in Doubleheader at Staten Island

Staten Island, NY - The Connecticut Tigers (2-4) were swept in a doubleheader against the Staten Island Yankees (2-3) on Wednesday night. This is the first time the Tigers have lost back-to-back games this season.
Game 1:
Eric De La Rosa drove in first run of the game in the sixth inning but the Tigers fell by a final score of 3-1
Jack O'Loughlin (Loss, 0-1) got his first start for the Tigers. O'Loughlin went four innings giving up three runs, two earned, on five hits with two strikeouts and a walk. Blakely Brown (Win, 1-0) went five inning giving up two hits and striking out six.
Jose King and David Noworyta posted their first hit in their first start for the Tigers in 2019. Darwin Alvardo also added a hit to the totals for the Tigers.
Daniel Ramos (Save, 1) came in to close the game for the Yankees. Ramos worked a one-two-three inning to end the contest.
Game 2:
The Tigers add four runs in the sixth inning but fell short by a final score of 6-4. There were no runs added until the fifth inning of the game.
In the frame, the Yankees added four runs on two Tiger errors and an RBI single by Oswald Peraza. Carson Lance was pulled in the fifth inning of the contest for Connecticut. Lance gave up four runs, two earned, with two walks and six strikeouts.
In the sixth inning, the Tigers answered back with four runs of their own. After Ildemaro Escalona was hit by a pitch, Jose King doubled and Kelvin Smith was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Jordan Verdon followed with a two-RBI double down the left-field line.
After an Eric De La Rosa RBI groundout, Jose Quero doubled home Verdon to tie the game at 4-4.
Zac Shepherd (Loss, 0-1) came in relief for the Tigers in the bottom of the sixth. After a lead-off double and a sacrifice bunt, the Yankees scored a run on a wild pitch to take a 5-4 lead. Alex Junior singled to make it a 6-4 contest. Marcus Evey (Win 1-0) set down the Tigers in order to end the game for Staten Island.
The Connecticut Tigers are back in action tomorrow when they finish the series against the Staten Island Yankees. Xavier Javier (0-0, 8.10) will get his second start of the season.
