Two Home Runs from Weiss Power E-Twins to Series Opening Win over Burlington

Elizabethton, Tennessee - The Elizabethton Twins struck for seven runs in the first three innings Wednesday night against the Burlington Royals and held on to win 8-5, backed by two home runs from Albee Weiss .

Despite an early Royals run in the first, the first three Twins walked in the bottom of the inning and Weiss sent a 1-1 pitch over the fence in left-center field for a grand slam to put Elizabethton up 4-1.

The E-Twins did not look back, as Max Smith singled home Seth Gray just moments later, then added runs in the second and third as well. Weiss crushed a solo home run in the second, then Yeremi De La Cruz doubled in Will Holland in the third inning for a 7-1 lead.

While Burlington scored four runs between the fifth and seventh innings, a sacrifice fly from Smith in the fifth added the insurance Elizabethton needed to stay on top.

Tyler Benninghoff picked up his first win of the season, throwing five strong innings. The Kansas City native allowed two runs on five hits while striking out four.

While Denny Bentley struggled after hm, allowing two earned runs in two innings, Dylan Thomas held things down after him, holding the Royals scoreless for the rest of the game.

Thomas pitched the eighth and ninth innings, giving up two hits and a walk, but striking out four to earn his second save of the year.

The E-Twins look to win the series Thursday night against the Royals, first pitch is at 6:30 p.m. with Ben Gross taking the hill for Elizabethton. The game is the Twins' second-to-last Thirsty Thursday, with select sodas and beers just $1.
