Charleston Lowgators News Release

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (October 30, 2002) – Former College of Charleston stars Thaddeous Delaney and Jermel President were named as the third and fourth allocated players to the 2002-2003 North Charleston Lowgators roster, according to an announcement today by NBDL League Office. Delaney and President join previously allocated players Jeff Bolton from the College of Charleston and Jamel Bradley from the University of South Carolina.

Karl Hicks, Executive Director of the NBDL, named Delaney and President among the players allocated to the eight NBDL clubs for the league's second season. Allocated players have regional ties to their teams and receive berths into the training camps of the teams in the NBA's minor league.

Delaney, a 6-foot-8, 250 pound forward/center from Columbia, S.C. and the College of Charleston ('97) has played professionally in Argentina, Australia, Chile, the Philippines and Spain since leaving the College.

Delaney finished his collegiate career at the College of Charleston as the fourth all-time leading scorer (1564 points) and second all-time leading rebounder (1119 rebounds) in school history. He set the all-time Trans America Athletic Conference (TAAC) career record in rebounds. During his four-year career, the College of Charleston had a 101-17 overall record, including four TAAC championships, two NIT and two NCAA Tournament appearances. Delaney earned First Team All-TAAC honors his final three seasons.

President, a 5-foot-11, 190 pound guard from Burke High School in Charleston and the College of Charleston ('99) was named second team All-Southern Conference following his senior season. He finished his career ranked 16th on the College's all-time scoring list with 1,175 points.

In the 1998-99 season, President started 27 of 31 games and led the College of Charleston to their most successful campaign, finishing 28-3 (19-0 Southern Conference) and helped the school to a final national ranking of 16th in the AP poll.. President averaged 11.7 ppg on .457 shooting (113-247), 2.4 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1 steal per game.

"Thaddeous is a powerful and talented player. He provides a strong presence on the boards and in the paint and brings an impressive record of success and sterling reputation from his days at the College of Charleston," said Lowgators Head Coach Doug Marty.

"Jermel is a very talented player with a tremendous amount of leadership skills," said Marty. "He knows how to lead a team and make everyone else around him better. I'm looking forward to seeing both of them play in the upcoming training camp."

Delaney and President will join the Lowgators for the first time when the team opens training camp November 3 in North Charleston.

Each team has been allocated four players for the upcoming season. The remainder of the roster will be filled by returning players from last year's team, players selected in the October 31 NBDL Draft or any players who might advance from local tryouts. Three of four 2001-2002 allocated players -- Sedric Webber, B.J. McKie and Antonio Grant -- made last year's team.

The North Charleston Lowgators open the 2002-03 NBDL season Friday, November 15, 2002 against the Mobile Revelers at the Mobile Civic Center. The Lowgators home opener is a rematch of last year's NBDL Finals on Sunday, November 17 against the defending champion Greenville Groove at the North Charleston Coliseum. Lowgators season tickets are currently on sale. For information, call (843) 460-1000 or visit www.northcharlestonlowgators.com.
