NBDL Allocation Lists Announced

October 30, 2002 - NBA G League (G League) News Release

GREENVILLE, S.C., October 30, 2002 – The National Basketball Development League has completed the allocation of players to each of its eight teams, it was announced today by Karl Hicks, Executive Director of the NBDL. On the eve of the league's second draft, each NBDL team now has four allocated players heading into the annual selection process.

NBA Commissioner David Stern and NBDL President Phil Evans will kick off Thursday's draft festivities via conference call. The draft gets underway at 5 p.m. EST from league draft headquarters in Duluth, Ga. Draft parties to give media and fans a glimpse of what goes in a draft "war room" are scheduled in most of the eight NBDL communities.

The draft is scheduled for 14 rounds with the Roanoke Dazzle selecting first, followed by the Fayetteville Patriots, Asheville Altitude, Huntsville Flight, Mobile Revelers, Columbus Riverdragons, North Charleston Lowgators and Greenville Groove. The order of the draft will remain the same through all 14 rounds.

A maximum of 25 players will report to NBDL team training camps, which open Nov. 3. A minimum of one allocation player is guaranteed a spot on each team's final roster of 10 players.

The NBDL preseason gets underway Nov. 7 when Roanoke travels to North Charleston and the regular season begins Nov. 15 with a full slate of games in four cities. The opening-night game featuring Asheville at Fayetteville will be aired on ESPN2 Nov. 22 at 4 p.m.

NBDL fans that can't make it to their local draft party can follow the process via NBDL.COM. The first two rounds of the draft will feature a live audio stream complete with analysis from NBDL Player Personnel Director Milt Newton and NBA Director of Scouting Marty Blake. The first round will be updated live on a ticker and the reminder of the draft will be posted at the conclusion of each round on the NBDL.COM Draft Board.

Designed to help grow the sport of basketball both domestically and internationally, the NBDL serves as a source of on-court talent for the NBA's 29 teams and as a diverse human resources pool for the NBA and its teams by training employees in management, operations, public relations, sales and marketing positions.
