San Jose Earthquakes News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that midfielders Florian Jungwirth and Anibal Godoy have obtained U.S. green cards and no longer occupy international spots on the club's roster. The green cards drop the Quakes from 10 international players to eight, making them roster compliant for the 2018 season.
Godoy, 28, has started 57 of his 59 appearances for San Jose since joining the team in August of 2015. He has tallied five goals, including four game-winners, and three assists in two-and-a-half seasons. He's also among the most fouled players in MLS, suffering a league-high 71 among players with fewer than 25 starts in 2017. He was signed to a new multi-year contract in November.
Jungwirth, 29, joined the Quakes ahead of the 2017 season. He started 30 matches for the club in his debut campaign, tallying two goals and three assists en route to being named the Earthquakes Defensive Player of the Year. He was named to the MLS Team of the Week three times during the season.
San Jose currently has 26 players under contract for 2018, eight of whom are international players: defenders Francois Affolter, Harold Cummings, Joel Qwiberg and Yeferson Quintana, midfielders Magnus Eriksson, Jahmir Hyka and Vako, and forward Danny Hoesen.
