Two Cottonmouths Named To SPHL Rookie Team

The 2007-08 SPHL Regular Season Awards have been announced and Cottonmouths defenseman Darren Noskey and goaltender Ian Vigier have been named to the rookie team. Three forwards, two defensemen and a goalie were named to each the first team, second team and rookie team. A league MVP, rookie of the year, defenseman of the year and coach of the year were also named.

Noskey, a 21-year old rookie from Loon River, Alberta joined the Snakes in 2007-08 for his rookie season. He led the Snakes defensive unit with 22 points in 48 games, and finished the season ninth in the league in scoring among defensemen.

Vigier finished the season fifth in the league among goaltenders with a 13-12-4 regular season record. He registered a 3.19 Goals Against Average and .917 save percentage. The Notre Dame de Lourdes, Manitoba native recorded his first professional shutout in just his second professional game, blanking the Jacksonville Barracudas on the road, 2-0 on Nov. 3, 2007.

The Cottonmouths will face the Knoxville Ice Bears for the first round of the SPHL playoffs in a best-of-five series. Games one and two will be in Knoxville this Friday and Saturday, March 28 and 29. Games three and four, if necessary, will be at the Snake Pit Friday, April 4 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 6 at 4 p.m. Game five, if necessary, will be Tuesday, April 8 in Knoxville.
