Vandermeer Defenseman Of The Year

For the second year in a row a Richmond Renegades defenseman has been selected by the SPHL coaches as the 2007-08 SPHL Defenseman of the Year. Last season Renegades head coach, Brian Goudie was selected as the 2006-07 SPHL Defenseman of the Year.

The SPHL today released its list of top players and All-Star teams and Richmond Renegades top scoring DAN VANDERMEER received the honor as the league's top defenseman. He was also selected to the First All-Star defensive corp.

Vandermeer played in all 52 games scoring 13 goals and assisting on 57 others for 70 points and a tie for fifth in league scoring. He was a plus 23 with 89 PIMs and led the league with 220 shots on goal. He was SPHL Defenseman of the Year fr the week ending November 17, 2007.

Leading goal scorer ANDRE GILL was named to the Second All-Star team. For the season, second year forward Gill led the team with 33 goals and assisted on 27 others for 60 points. He was a plus 9 with 23 PIM's.

The League MVP was Kevin Swider of Knoxville, Rookie of the Year was Taylor Hustead of Twin City and Jacksonville's coach, Rick Alain was named Coach of the Year.

The Renegades ended the season in fourth place one point behind the Fayetteville FireAntz who will be their first round opponent. The Renegades will start the series on Friday, March 28th in Fayetteville and return Saturday to the Coliseum. Game time for the home game is 7:35 PM.
