Carolina Cobras News Release
GREENSBORO - After a thrilling 45-42 buzzer beater victory, the Carolina Cobras gained their first win of the season after a nail biting win that came down to a field goal against the Jersey Flight at the CURE insurance arena in Trenton, NJ.
TC Stevens and his golden foot earned NAL special team player of the week after he kicked the Cobras season off right with a walk-off, game-winning field goal. Stevens, in his first ever Cobra's game, showed his accuracy all game long kicking four out of six extra points and 1 for two in field goals. He also set the Cobras defense up perfectly to defend the field with four of six kick-offs being touchbacks with an average of 29.8 yards per kick.
Joe Powell wrecked havoc for the flight offense all game earning him the NAL defensive player of the week. Powell was locked in game one, leading both teams in solo tackles at six with nine total tackles overall. In Powell's first ever game for the Cobras, his presence was a huge factor in stopping the run, keeping the Flight to 7 total rushing yards for a 0.6-yard average.
This week, the 1-0 Cobras will enjoy their bye week as the NAL continues with week 2. On June 12th, Carolina will be on the road to take on the only other undefeated team, the Albany Empire.
