Arkansas Diamonds News Release

(Corpus Christi, TX) Corpus Christi looked impressive on their first drive of the game after QB Gary Cooper plunged into the end zone from a yard out. The Arkansas Twisters came right back scoring on their first play from scrimmage. Arkansas quarterback Kyle Rowley connected with Rod Harper for 49 yards and a touchdown. The two teams matched each other with touchdown drives on their next possessions. It looked as if Corpus Christi was going to punch it in for their third score of the game when Arkansas Twister defensive back James Todd stepped in front of a pass in the end zone for a touchback. Rowley and the offense took that momentum and drove 45 yards and scored on a 7 yards pass to Rod Harper with 25 seconds to play in the first quarter.

The second quarter seemed to be more of the same from the first. After what seemed to be another scoring drive from Corpus Christi to start off the second quarter, Arkansas DB James Todd grabbed his second of three interceptions on the night. Arkansas would go on to score three times in the second quarter while holding Corpus Christi to only one. Arkansas would go on to take a 42-20 lead to the locker room.

Arkansas came out of the locker room with the same sense of urgency that they ended the first half with. After just two plays into the third quarter Rowley connected with Rod Harper for 12 yards and the score. Corpus would then go on to hold Arkansas scoring rampage outscoring them in the third quarter.

The Rowley-Harper combination proved to be too much for the Corpus defense. Rowley and Harper ended the night connecting 14 times for a total of 275 yards and 7 touchdowns. Arkansas rolls out of Corpus with a huge win and a strong hold in the AF2 Southeastern conference with an 82-59 win.
