Twisters defeat Lubbock; win fourth straight game

(North Little Rock, AR) - The Arkansas Twisters scored five unanswered touchdowns and used an unrelenting defense to defeat the Lubbock Renegades 61-25 in front of 4931 at Alltel Arena to take sole possession of second place in the Central Division.

Arkansas led 13-10 early in the first quarter when it started a string of touchdowns to open up a big lead. Twisters' receiver Jamaal Perry caught a 25 yard pass from Kyle Rowley and the extra point extended Arkansas' lead to 20-10 at the end of the first quarter.

Lubbock's quarterback Robert Kent was sacked on the next drive and fumbled the football. The Twisters recovered and drove 37 yards for the score. Perry ran the ball three yards for the touchdown, and the extra point put the Twisters up 27-10.

Twisters' defensive back Donte Williams hit Alvance Robinson on the next drive to force another fumble. Tito Hannah recovered the ball for the Twisters and returned it to the Arkansas 16 yard line. The Twisters cashed in on the opportunity three plays later when Rowley found Chris Denney for an eight yard touchdown. The extra point extended the Twisters' lead to 34-10.

After Arkansas stopped Lubbock on fourth down, the Twisters scored on a 32 yard scoring play from Rowley to Denney. Denny caught the ball fully extended and slid into the endzone before the defender could tackle him. The Twisters led 41-10 at halftime.

Lubbock scored with 1:26 left in the third quarter for the first time since the first quarter. Orlando Medlock scored on a six yard play to pull Lubbock within 48-17. The Renegades scored just once more as the Twisters' defense forced four total turnovers and limited Lubbock to 2 touchdowns in six redzone scoring chances.

Rowley finished the game by completing 21 of 27 pass attempts for 286 yards and seven touchdowns. Perry led all players with 11 catches for 176 yards. He also added four total touchdowns. Denney finished the game with six catches for 67 yards, four receiving touchdowns and a fumble recovery for a touchdown. Defensive lineman Tito Hannah finished the game with 4.0 tackles, a fumble recovery, a pass breakup and two sacks.

Lubbock (7-4) quarterback Robert Kent completed 17 of 38 pass attempts for 231 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception. Alvance Robinson hauled in seven catches for 113 yards and two scores. Medlock added a six yard touchdown catch.

The Twisters (7-4) move into sole possession of second place in the Central Division as well as the fourth spot in the playoff seeding for the af2 playoffs. Arkansas will travel to the Pacific Northwest to play Tri-Cities on Saturday, June 21.
