Texas Copperheads News Release

Bossier City, LA - The Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings scored on their first four possessions and coasted past the Texas Copperheads 54-25 at the CenturyTel Center in Bossier City. The victory raises the Battle Wings' record to 5-6 while the Copperheads fall to 2-9.

The Battle Wings set the tone on their first offensive play as Gary Cooper went deep to Manwell Talbert for a 45 yard TD. Bossier-Shreveport was ahead to stay 7-0.

After Nick Gatto converted a 28 yard FG to narrow the lead to 7-3, Cooper would again find Talbert for a score. This time Talbert ran a post pattern and Cooper found him in the middle of the field with a 14 yard strike. Gatto's FG would be the only points scored by Texas in the first half.

Jason Schule accounted for the Battle Wings' final two scores of the first half scoring on a 1 yard run and 23 yard swing pass.

Bossier-Shreveport opened second half scoring with a 17 yard TD pass from Cooper to P.J. Winston.

Trailing 33-3 Texas put together a mini run scoring 14 straight points. First, David Kennebrew scored on a 3 yard pass from Rudy Carlton. On the ensuing possession James Todd intercepted Cooper near the Texas 1 yard line and weaved through would be Battle Wing tacklers for a 49 yard score. Todd intercepted Cooper twice on the night.

The Battle Wings and Copperheads traded TDs to open 4th quarter scoring. First, Cooper found Talbert for a 3 yard score. Texas answered with a 13 yard Carlton to Tim Riley TD. After converting a 2 point conversion, Texas trailed 40-25.

Bossier-Shreveport scored the final 14 points of the game as Cooper found Gerrell Golightly and Dustin Johnson for a pair of 14 yard TDs.

The game was delayed for approximately ten minutes when Copperheads LB/DL Julian Hill was injured near the end of the 3rd quarter. Hill lay motionless on the field for several minutes before being removed on a stretcher and taken to a local hospital. Early indicators suggest that Hill experienced a stinger and should recover. Hill will be hospitalized over night.
