Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Bossier-Shreveport BattleWings improved to 5-6 on the season and stay within reach of the Southwest Division leaders after handling the Texas Copperheads with ease in front of 3,902 fans at the CenturyTel Center in Bossier City on Saturday night. The BattleWings' scored early and often as QB Gary Cooper connected with 5 different receivers for touchdowns and ended the night with 7 touchdown passes. The BattleWings' lead at halftime was 26-3 as the Wings' defense held the Copperheads to a field goal by K Nick Gatto.
The BattleWings' offense started the 3rd quarter with a bang when QB Gary Cooper hit PJ Winston for a 17 yard scoring strike, but the Copperheads roared back with two consecutive scores of their own as QB Rudy Carlton connected with FB David Kennebrew on a 3 yard score and James Todd returned an interception 49 yards for a score to cut the BattleWings' lead to 16 points. The BattleWings' cut short the Texas comeback with three touchdowns in the final quarter, as Gary Cooper connected with receivers Manwell Talbert and Dustin Johnson and TE Gerrell Golightly.
The BattleWings defense also did their part in the victory as they sacked Copperhead QB Rudy Carlton four times and constantly pressured the Texas signal-caller. BattleWings LB's Marvin Byrdsong and Kendrick Bournes finished with two sacks each on the evening, and DB Pete McBride collected the only interception of the night for the BattleWings.
The BattleWings will travel to Oklahoma next week as they tangle with the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz. Kickoff is 7:05 PM.
