Twins phenom, Liriano, faces off with Penn Tonight at Harbor Park

Francisco Liriano, the Minnesota Twins highly regarded prospect will square off with the Tides Hayden Penn tonight at Harbor Park. The southpaw missed all of last season as he recovered from "Tommy John" surgery on his left elbow. Tonight's start will be his second regular season start since undergoing the procedure on November 6, 2006. Liriano finished the 2006 season with a 12-3 record in 16 starts and compiled a team low 2.16 earned run average. Despite his impressive numbers in 2006, Liriano finished third in the American League Rookie of the Year voting, behind Old Dominion University stand out Justin Verlander (Detroit) and Johnathan Papelbon (Boston). The Tides will send 25-year-old Hayden Penn to the mound to counter Liriano. Penn was the opening day starter for the Tides as he tossed 4.1 innings vs. the Buffalo Bisons on April 3rd. Penn was also with the Tides in 2007 and pitched his way to a 2-1 record in 4 starts. The action will take place tonight at Harbor Park as the Tides take on the Rochester Red Wings with the first pitch set for 7:15 p.m.
