Indianapolis Indians News Release
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Right fielder Steve Pearce went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI singles as Indianapolis rolled to its fourth straight road win -- a 4-3 decision over Syracuse -- Tuesday night at Alliance Bank Stadium.
The Indians improve to 4-2 on the season, while the Chiefs fall to 2-4.
Pearce, who was named Minor League Baseball's 2007 Player of the Year by Topps and MiLB.com, brought home the Tribe's first and last runs. He plated C Raul Chavez with a single to center in the third and scored SS Josh Wilson with a base knock to left in the seventh.
Pearce, Chavez (2-for-3, 1 R), 2B Luis Ordaz (2-for-4) and 1B Matt Kata (2-for-5, 1 R, 1 RBI) all registered multi-hit games for Indianapolis. The Indians have now collected 36 hits over their past four affairs (9.00 per game) after recording just four base knocks in their first two contests (2.00 per game).
Tribe RHP Romulo Sanchez (3.0 IP, 1 H, 2 SO) earned his first Triple-A win, while RHP Jonah Bayliss (1.0 IP) needed just four pitches to notch his first save of the season.
Chiefs LHP Mike Gosling (1.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 SO) was tagged with the loss in his first decision of 2008.
Syracuse plated one run in each of the first three innings. 2B Joe Inglett hammered a solo dinger in the first and scored on a single by LF Adam Lind in the third, while C Curtis Thigpen crossed the dish on a single by 1B Chip Cannon in the second.
Neither starter -- Indianapolis RHP Bryan Bullington (5.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 4 SO) or Syracuse LHP David Purcey (6.0 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 7 SO) -- figured in the decision.
The two teams continue their four-game series on Wednesday at 6 p.m. RHP Jason Davis is scheduled to start for Indianapolis, while RHP Josh Banks is expected to get the nod for Syracuse.
The contest will be carried by WXLW-950 AM and www.IndyIndians.com with Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley. The pre-game show begins at 5:40 p.m.

Post-game quotes -- RF Steve Pearce
(on winning four straight road games) "Winning four straight on the road is a great feeling. It was nice to see our bats come alive late in tonight's game. (Bryan) Bullington really battled, and our relief pitchers were great."
(on the performance of RHP Romulo Sanchez) "(Romulo) Sanchez did an unbelievable job tonight. He will be a great asset to our club if he can perform like that day in and day out."
