Iowa Barnstormers News Release
Philadelphia, PA - The Iowa Barnstormers hit the road looking for their third straight victory on Saturday night, only to fall short by a score of 54-30 to the Philadelphia Soul at the Wells Fargo Center in downtown Philadelphia. The Soul were led by their defense who forced 3 interceptions by Iowa QB J.J. Raterink and allowed only 6 first half points.
Philadelphia QB Dan Raudabaugh was solid, finishing the night completing 12 of 14 passes for 142 yards and 4 touchdowns. FB Derrick Ross who recently became the AFL's all time leading rusher scored on a 3 yard run with :17 seconds remaining to give the Soul a 27-6 half-time lead.
Iowa Head Coach Mike Hohensee made a half-time adjustment, replacing Raterink with rookie backup QB Brian Reader. Reader led the Barnstormer s on three second half touchdown drives and Iowa narrowed the lead to 11 points at 41-30 with about 10 minutes remaining. However, Philadelphia responded by closing the game with two touchdowns of their own as Raudabaugh connected with Ryan McDaniel and then DL Calvin Fance recovered a fumble by Reader and returned it for the game's final score.
