Two-Point Conversion Gives Chicago A 50-49 Win Over Tampa Bay Storm

TAMPA BAY - Reggie Gray's two-point conversion run with no time on the clock gave the Chicago Rush a narrow, 50-49, Arena Football League win over the Tampa Bay Storm Saturday night on the Amalie Motor Oil Field at the Tampa Bay Times Forum. Rush quarterback Carson Coffman had scored on a 1-yard plunge as time ran out in the fourth and final quarter.

It was the fourth win in the last five games for the Rush (8-6, 2-2) and was the third straight loss for Tampa Bay (7-7, 2-2).

After Tampa Bay took a 49-42 lead with 4:28, Coffman engineered a 40-yard drive.

With just over six minutes remaining, Chicago had a 4th down on the Tampa Bay 4-yard line, but a Carson Coffman pass was deflected by lineman Rodney Beamon. The ball was intercepted by the Storm's Tremaine Johnson intercepted the ball at the four yard line and advanced it to the 10 where he fumbled the ball. Storm defensive back Chris Smith picked up the fumble at the 10 and return it to the 25 yard line.

Hippeard then connected with Michael Lindsey, who went the distance, fighting off Rush tacklers into the end zone, giving the Storm a 49-42 lead with 4:28 remaining.

The Tampa Bay Storm will have their bye next weekend, but return to the Amalie Motor Oil Field at the Tampa Bay Times Forum on Saturday, July 6, to play the Spokane Shock (10-4). Game time is 7:30 p.m. On April 27, the Storm defeated the Shock, 70-62, at Spokane.
