Turner Carroll Alum Rejoins The Destroyers

(BUFFALO, NY)- The Buffalo Destroyers announced today they have signed former Turner Carroll star and Syracuse University alum WR/LB Malik Campbell. The team has also signed QB Bob Bees from San Jose's practice squad.

Campbell (6-3, 175, Syracuse) was originally in training camp with the Destroyers this season. He played one game last season for the af2's Albany Conquest, a playoff game against Cape Fear.

Campbell played basketball his first two years at Syracuse before switching to football. He ranks ninth on SU's all-time punt return yards list with 344 and seventh with 9.8 yards per return average. Campbell had 59 career receptions for 811 yards and one touchdown in three seasons for the Orangemen.

Campbell was New York State Player of the Year in football at quarterback his senior season at Turner Carroll. He was All-State in both football and basketball and was a Gatorade All-American in football.

Bees (6-3, 215, Rocky Mountain) spent the first 11 weeks of the season as the backup to Mark Grieb in San Jose but did not see any action. He spent the past three seasons (2000-02) with the Richmond Speed of af2. He had his most productive af2 campaign last season going 293 of 481 (60.9%) for 3,650 yards with 64 touchdowns. He completed 262 of 502 attempts (52.2%) for 3,579 yards and 73 touchdowns leading the Speed to the 2001 ArenaCup title game. He joined Richmond midway through the 2000 season and guided team to a 7-2 record after the Speed had gone 0-7. He was under center for all 34 wins in Speed history and owns a 34-13 record as Richmond's starter.

Buffalo also signed FB/LB Richard McCleskey after he was picked up off waivers from Las Vegas and signed QB Charles Puleri from the practice squad. The team placed QB Kevin Mason (neck) and OL/DL Mark Valvo (knee) on injured reserve.

The Destroyers are home this Saturday, April 26 to host the Indiana Firebirds at 7:00 p.m. at the HSBC Arena.
