April 23, 2003 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Grand Rapids Rampage News Release

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Grand Rapids Rampage of the Arena Football League today activated wide receiver/linebacker Ricky Ross from injured reserve and placed wide receiver/defensive back DeAuntae Brown on the team's injured list.

Ross (5-11, 183, Missouri) was having his best AFL season before suffering a high ankle sprain week six against the Georgia Force. During his phenomenal six-game stretch, Ross returned a fumble, a missed field goal and two kickoffs for touchdowns. He also chipped in offensively with 18 catches for 172 yards and two touchdowns.

Brown (5-10, 195, Central State), who began the 2003 season with the Dallas Desperados, will miss at least the next two weeks with a shoulder injury. The former Marauder signed with the Rampage as a free agent on February 6. In seven games this season, Brown has recorded five catches for 65 yards on offense, and 28.5 tackles (3rd best on team), eight pass breakups and an interception on defense. He joins fullback/linebacker Chris Ryan, defensive specialist Shea Showers and linemen Israel Raybon and Joe Wylie on Grand Rapids' injured list.

In other moves, the Rampage signed lineman Rickie Simpkins (6-3, 296, Syracuse) from the practice squad and filled the practice squad void with lineman Desmond Baker (6-5, 310, Valdosta State). Simpkins has seen action in two games this season with the Rampage, while Baker last played in the AFL with the Buffalo Destroyers during the 2001 season.

Both Ross and Simpkins will be in uniform as the Rampage (8-4) take on the Chicago Rush (5-7) Sunday afternoon at Allstate Arena. The game, which kicks off at 3 p.m. (ET), can be heard live on WBBL 1340 AM and seen live on NBC Sports (channel 8 locally).
