Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI-Milwaukee Admirals Owner Harris Turer was honored today at the BizTech Conference as one of the BRAVO Entrepreneur Awards given to 12 Southeastern Wisconsin area business owners who have distinguished themselves for the creative and innovative work demonstrated by their companies.
Turer recently completed his fifth season as the principal owner of the Milwaukee Admirals, as well as the team's Governor and CEO. Turer led a group of Milwaukee area businessmen in the formation of Milwaukee Admirals, LLC, which purchased the franchise from the estate of the late Jane Bradley Pettit on April 14, 2005.
During this past season the Admirals drew 241,073 fans in 40 home games, an average of over 6,000 fans per game. That is greater than a 22% increase over the 197,198 fans that the team logged in the year prior to Turer acquiring the team. Since then, the Admirals have had 20 crowds in excess of 10,000 fans, including a sell-out crowd of 17,653 on April 14, 2006, the fifth largest crowd in franchise history. Plus, sponsorship revenue has also increased by a staggering 125% since the Whitefish Bay resident took the reigns of the team.
One of the charges that Turer gave the Admiral's staff was, "We are a minor league team, let's act like it," and thus the team has seen an increase in the number of promotions and the entertainment at games. In the past five seasons, the Ads have given out their first bobbleheads, they have hosted national recording acts like Styx, Sugerland, REO Speedwagon, and the Dropkick Murphys, held crazy promotions like a Hairiest Back Contest, a Biggest Beer Belly Contest, and Don't Be Like Mike Night, and added popular ticket promotions like the Private Bank Family Days and the Chipotle Fiesta Deck.
In addition to the wacky promotions and high-level entertainment, under Turer's guidance the Admirals have increased their presence in the community ten-fold, visiting sick kids at Children's Hospital Milwaukee and handing out Thanksgiving dinners to the less fortunate among other things. The team also hosts "Reading: The Ultimate Power Play" which is a reading program done in conjunction with Milwaukee Public Schools and the Northwestern Mutual Foundation that includes monthly visits by Admirals players to the participating schools. The team has also established a charitable arm called the "Power Play Foundation," which has given out over $200,000 to non-profit organizations in Southeast Wisconsin.
The Ads are also very active in the youth hockey scene in Wisconsin, conducting numerous clinics with Admirals players at many of the youth hockey organizations. Turer has also been instrumental in the supporting the Milwaukee Jr. Admirals and hosting a high school hockey tournament at the Bradley Center in each of the last three seasons.
The Admirals have also been very successful on the ice during Turer's tenure. The Admirals have made the playoffs each season, won the West Division Title twice, made it to the Calder Cup finals in 2006 and became the first franchise in the 74-year history of the American Hockey League to post seven consecutive seasons with 40 or more wins and 90 or more points. In addition, over 30 Admirals have gone on to the play in the NHL, including 2010 Olympic Gold Medalist Shea Weber.
Season tickets for the 2010-11 season are on sale now for as little as $145. For more information or to order season tickets please call the Admirals office at (414) 227-0550 or visit us online at www.milwaukeeadmirals.com.
