Rapid City Rush News Release
(Tulsa, OK) - The Tulsa Oilers' two main offensive weapons, Ryan Menei and Ben Gordon, scorched the Rapid City Rush for five goals and nine combined points in a 5-2 win on Tuesday night at the BOK Center. The Rush conclude their two-week road trip with a 3-3-0 record, and now host the Arizona Sundogs in a pair of games this weekend. Tickets are available by calling 716-7825 or online at gotmine.com
The Rush jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the contest, beginning with a rare shorthanded goal at the 4:08 mark. Jared Brown stripped an Oilers defenseman of the puck just outside of the Tulsa zone before setting up Jesse Schultz in the slot for his seventh of the season. Eight minutes later, Jamie VanderVeeken's wrist shot from the blueline was deflected home by Jared Brown, giving the Rush a commanding 2-0 lead just twelve minutes in. However, Ryan Menei cut the lead back to one just thirteen seconds later on a rebound from the left side of the net.
Menei struck again 3:06 into the second period, this time one-handing in a rebound from the right side of the net to make it a 2-2 game.
The third period was controlled by Tulsa, beginning with Ben Gordon's powerplay goal at the 8:51 mark, giving the Oilers their first lead of the game. With four minutes left, a 2-on-0 chance culminated in Menei completing the hat trick and a 4-2 advantage. Finally, Menei made it a four-point night with an empty-net goal in the closing seconds to lift Tulsa to the 5-2 triumph.
