Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

ALLEN, Texas (February 5) - Shawn Szydlowski's equalizer late in the third period in Allen Tuesday night kept the Brahmas alive, while shootout conversions by Sy Nutkevitch and Brendon Hodge sealed the 2-1 victory for Fort Worth.

Allen grabbed an early 1-0 lead just 1:51 into the first period when Drew Daniels scored on a slapshot from the point right off of a faceoff in the Brahmas' zone. Fort Worth netminder Brad Fogal kept the game in check in the opening frame, stuffing Kale Kerbashian on two separate breakaway opportunities.

After a scoreless second period, the Brahmas and Americans went the first 18:27 of the third period without a goal until Trevor Hendrikx was sent to the penalty box for a slashing minor. Fort Worth pulled the goalie to play 6-on-4 in pursuit of the equalizer, and 18 seconds into the power play, Shawn Szydlowski fired a wrister from the left faceoff circle past Allen goaltender Aaron Dell to even the score at 1-1 and send the game into overtime. The goal extends Szydlowski's point streak to six games, during which the St. Clair Shores, Michigan native has netted five goals and six assists.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the five-minute overtime period, so for the second straight game between the two Metroplex rivals, the matchup was decided in a shootout.

After Jamie Schaafsma scored on the first Allen attempt, Fogal shut the door and stuffed the final four shooters. Sy Nutkevitch and Brendon Hodge each converted on their shootout attempts, sealing the Brahmas' 2-1 victory. Hodge was credited with the game-winning goal.

Fogal improved to 11-8-1, making 18 saves on 19 shots in net for the Brahmas and stopping four of five attempts in the shootout. Fogal has stopped nine of the 10 shootout attempts he has faced this season.

Dell stopped 25 of 26 shots in net for the Americans but allowed two of the four Fort Worth shooters to light the lamp in the shootout to fall to 12-4-5.

The victory was the Brahmas' fourth in a row versus the Americans, three of which came on the road at the Allen Event Center. Fort Worth is now just three points behind Allen for first place in the Central Hockey League standings.

Winners of five of the their last six road games, the Brahmas continue their current five-game road trip Friday, February 8 and Saturday February 9 in Denver to finish out the regular-season series with the expansion Cutthroats. The team returns home Friday, February 15 to host the cross-town rival Allen Americans on Mascot Night at the NYTEX Sports Centre. The game is set for 7:30pm.
