MOLINE, Ill. (February 5, 2013) - John-Scott Dickson scored two special teams goals- including the third period game winner- and added an assist as the Missouri Mavericks came from behind to defeat the host Quad City Mallards 4-3 Tuesday night.
Dickson led the Mavericks to a decisive third period rally after Quad City's Mike Stinziani charged into the goalmouth to snap a two-all tie just 58 seconds into the third. The Mallards' lead disappeared when Kellan Tochkin converted a Dickson feed from point-blank range at 4:45 of the final frame. Dickson then put the Mavericks on top for good by rifling home a power play goal from the left wing circle at 8:22.
The Mavericks had also come from behind to grab the lead in a second period- Missouri struck for two goals in three minutes and twenty seconds to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 advantage before the Mallards bounced back to even the score at two. Dickson's shorthanded breakaway goal knotted the contest at one apiece at 8:27 of the second. The Mavericks grabbed the lead for the first time when Andrew Courtney scored from the slot at the 11:47 mark, but the Mallards responded with Bob Preece's equalizing blast from the left point at 14:38.
The evening had started well for the Mallards, who were on the power play when Mickey Lang- who would add two assists- wristed the game's opening goal in under the crossbar at 14:55 of the first period, but Quad City let both that lead and its later advantage slip away.
