Week In Review: The Oilers concluded their season-long five-game road trip with a 3-0 victory in Rapid City on Tuesday night. Shane Madolora turned aside 38 shots to record his second shutout of the season as the Oilers won for just the third time in 13 all-time visits to the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. Back at the BOK Center on Friday to begin a six-game home stand, the Oilers cruised past the Brampton Beast for a 5-2 win. Tulsa carried the momentum into Saturday's contest against the Beast and scored six goals on seven shots in the third period on the way to a 7-2 blowout win. Ben Gordon registered his second hat-trick of the season and Todd Robinson dished out three assists as the Oilers reached the seven-goal mark for the third time this season. Sunday afternoon, the Oilers clashed with the Allen Americans in the regular season series finale between the two clubs. Tulsa carried a 4-3 lead into the third period but the Americans found the net three times in the final frame and handed the Oilers a 6-5 loss.
Hats Off To Gordon: Playing against Brampton seems to bring out the best in Ben Gordon. Both of Gordon's hat-tricks this season have come against the Beast (Dec. 12 and Jan. 11). Saturday night, the Oilers forward blasted a one-timer in the second period to tie the contest at 1-1 and scored his second goal on a third period power play by re-directing a Michel Beausoleil pass into the back of the net. With his team enjoying a 5-on-3 power play, Gordon capped off his hat-trick by burying a rebound at the side of the Brampton crease. The Minnesota native scored his three goals on just five shots and has registered multiple points in 14 games this season.
Mega-Milestone For Robinson: Tulsa center Todd Robinson recorded his 1,000th career assist on a goal by Michel Beausoleil in the third period of Saturday's win over Brampton. Robinson, who finished the night with three helpers for his eighth multi-assist game of the season, reached the milestone in his 971st professional game. The Trail, British Columbia native has dished out at least 40 assists in each of his 15 seasons and has also registered 133 playoff assists in 142 postseason appearances. Robinson leads the CHL with 45 assists and leads the league with 57 points.
Dion Debut: Newly signed forward Cody Dion played in his first CHL game on Saturday and earned an assist in his Oilers debut by setting up Ryan Cramer's third period goal. Dion, who ended the night with a +1 rating, arrived in Tulsa after putting up 20 points in 25 games with the Knoxville Ice Bears (SPHL).
Save That Puck: In the tenth game of his career on Friday night, Oilers rookie Matt Kirzinger scored his first professional goal. Less than a minute into the third period, the 25-year old hammered a slap shot from the right face-off circle into the upper corner of the net to give the Oilers a commanding 5-0 lead over the Beast. The goal was Kirzinger's first point as an Oiler.
Fogal's First: Brad Fogal signed with the Oilers on Friday and made his first appearance in the Tulsa net on Sunday against Allen. The 27-year old goaltender stopped 24 of the 30 shots he faced in a losing effort. An Ontario native, Fogal has spent time in the CHL with Quad City, Fort Worth, and Arizona.
Madolora The Machine: Shane Madolora made his 18th consecutive start in goal on Saturday night against Brampton. The second-year pro is playing at the top of his game and has allowed just six goals in his last four appearances. Madolora, who holds a 3.05 goals average and .903 save percentage, continues to lead the CHL in appearances (33), minutes (1792), and total saves (845).
Scoring Surge: After suffering through a drought in which they scored just ten goals in five games, the Oilers offense has exploded for 20 goals in the last four contests. Tulsa has scored at least one goal in nine of its last 12 periods and has put up 30 shots on goal in six of its last seven contests.
Menei Ends Drought: Ryan Menei's bad luck finally came to an end on Friday night when he snapped a 20-game goal drought by scoring twice in the Oilers 5-2 win over the Beast. The right-winger, who missed nearly a month of the season with a knee injury and hadn't found the net since October 19 in Denver, tallied twice in the second period and netted the game-winning goal.
Among The Best: Todd Robinson leads the league in points (57) and assists (45)...Ben Gordon ranks fourth in the CHL with 49 points...Michel Beausoleil is second in the league with 23 goals...Despite missing the last four games, Kyle Bochek continues to lead the CHL with 121 penalty minutes...Adam Pleskach leads all CHL rookies with 21 goals...
Roster Notes: Center Kyle Bochek is on the 7-day IR...Defenseman Jarred Mohr has been moved from the 7-day IR to the 14-day IR...
