Tulsa Falls to Austin in Division Showdown

Tulsa, Okla. - The Tulsa 66ers finished with five players scoring in double-figures, but the Austin Toros pulled out the victory 102-88, in the second of a back-to-back set at the SpiritBank Event Center.

"Our effort tonight was much better," 66ers Head Coach Paul Woolpert said. "We need to just be able to get healthy."

The Toros started the game on a 12-2 run after four steals and five turnovers by the 66ers. Tulsa battled back with a 7-0 run of their own, and tied the game at 17 with 1:57 remaining in the first quarter after a Moses Ehambe three-pointer.

Gary Ervin scored nine of his 13 points in the second quarter, but the 66ers shot 35.7% (5-14) in the period. A Nate Brown three-pointer with 6:37 remaining in the half capped a 5-0 run for Austin, as the Toros surged to an 11 point lead. The 66ers battled back to within five points but trailed 40-50 at halftime.

The teams traded baskets in the third period, as Derrick Dial scored 12 points for Tulsa and Ezra Williams scored 16 points for Austin in the quarter. Tulsa shot 15-of-35 (42.9%) and Austin shot 16-of-34 (47.1%) in the second half.

Dial finished with 16 points off the bench for the 66ers, while Jeremy Kelly and Gary Forbes each scored 16 points as well. Ryan Humphrey tallied his second double-double in as many games with 15 points and 13 rebounds.

Austin was led by Pops Mensah-Bonsu with his game-high 25 points, while Ezra Williams tallied 24 points. Marcus Williams added 16 points and six assists, and Serge Angounou grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds off the bench.

The Toros (18-7) continue their eight-game road trip on Wednesday, Feb. 4 at Colorado, then travel to Rio Grande Valley on Sunday, Feb. 8, before finishing with three games in California.

The 66ers (6-19) host the Reno Bighorns on Thursday, Feb. 5, then host the Idaho Stampede and Sioux Falls Skyforce that Saturday and Sunday.
