Tucson Loses 4-2 in Maui Tuesday

Maui, HI - Tucson's offensive struggles continued in Maui on Tuesday, as the Toros lost to the Na Koa Ikaika 4-2 at Maehara Stadium.

The Toros took the first lead of the game with 2 runs in the 4th inning. 2B Jose Valdez' single was followed by a 2-run home run to left by LF Lino Garcia to give Tucson a 2-0 advantage. The homer was Garcia's fifth of the season. Maui leveled the score with 2 runs of their own in the bottom of the frame, and pushed across 2 more in the 6th to go ahead 4-2.

Maui's pitching staff limited the Toros to just 5 hits in the game. 3B Wally Backman Jr. had a double and SS Ryan Priddy and 1B Cristobal Santana both added singles. Santana has now hit in all 6 games he has played in since return to the lineup following an arm injury. Earlier this season, Santana hit safely in 18 straight to tie him with OF Francisco Plasencia for the longest by a Toro this season.

Starting pitcher Vince Davis posted his 2nd quality start of the road trip and the 4th for Tucson starters in their 5 games in Yuma. The lefthander went 6 innings, allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits and 2 walks while striking out 4.

The Tucson Toros and Na Koa Ikaika will wrap up the six game series Wednesday night with the game scheduled to begin at 9:35 p.m. Tucson time. The Toros will then head home to host the St. George Roadrunners for a three game series at Hi Corbett Field beginning on Fireworks Friday at 7:00 p.m.
