Tucson Sidewinders News Release

The Sidewinders survived a late-inning surge by the Stingers to take their 3rd game in as many nights. The final score was 6-5, with Salt Lake scoring 2 in the 9th as they left the tying run stranded at 2nd base. LHP Jon Cannon (3-3) came on to relieve starter RHP Shane Reynolds in the 5th to pick up his 3rd win of the season. He pitched extremely effectively, holding the Stingers to 1 run on 5 hits in 4 innings. RHP Chris Bootcheck (3-5) took the loss for the stingers as they fall to a season low 13 games below .500 at 20-33, last place in the entire PCL. The win pushed the Tucson to 31-23.

Offensive stars for Tucson feature DH Alan Zinter and SS Jerry Gil. Zinter finished his night going 3-3, with a run scored. Gil hit his 5th home run of the year, a 2-run shot over the left field wall in the 2nd inning. That home run set a new career high in home runs for Gil with 5. His previous high was 4 with Single-A South Bend last year.

For Salt Lake, 3B/SS Victor Gutierrez hit his 1st home run of the season with a solo shot to lead off the 3rd. He would finish his night 2-5, with 2 runs and an RBI. 1B Wil Nieves also had 2 hits on the night with a 2B.

The night's attendance was 4,831 and the game finished just 3 minutes before the 3-hour mark at 2:57. The Sidewinders wrap up their home stand tomorrow night as they go for their first sweep of the year. Game time is 7:00 PM. Probables include Salt Lake's RHP Brandon Emanuel (0-4, 9.89) facing LHP Michael Gosling (1-2, 7.06) for Tucson.
