Arkansas Travelers News Release

Former Travs' center fielder Mike Trout has been named Baseball America's 2011 Minor League Player of the Year. Trout, 20, was listed as BA's No. 2 prospect in all of baseball - behind Bryce Harper with the Washington Nationals' organization- and is the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim's No. 1 prospect.

Trout played only for the class double A Arkansas Travelers and hit .326 with 11 home runs and 38 RBIs. In 91 games with the Travs, he also scored 82 runs, had 18 doubles, 13 triples and stole 33 bases in 43 attempts. He had a .414 on-base percentage and a .958 on-base plus slugging percentage.

Drafted by the Angels out of Millville Senior High School with the 25th pick overall in 2009, Trout was first called up by the Angels on July 8. In 14 games, he batted .163 with one home run and six RBIs. He scored six runs and was 1 for 1 in stolen bases, and was sent back to the Travs on Aug. 1.

Trout tore the Texas League up again in his return, batting .333 (21 for 63) with two home runs, 11 RBIs, 13 runs in 16 games. The Travs went 10-6 in those 16 games after going 7-16 without him. Trout is currently with the Angels and is batting .238 (20-84) with five home runs and 14 RBIs, adding 17 runs and four doubles in 28 games.

Trout is the first Angels' player to receive the honor since Tim Salmon was named player of the year in 1992.

In 131 games between Cedar Rapids (low A) and Rancho Cucamonga (high A) in 2010, Trout hit .341 with 10 home runs and 58 RBIs. He also had 106 runs and 56 stolen bases.
