Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, Manitoba -- Three members of the Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings have landed National Hockey League training camp contracts, the WHL club announced on Thursday.
Former Medicine Hat Tigers' blueliner Riley Day has been invited to Carolina Hurricanes' camp, local product Derek LeBlanc is headed to the Toronto Maple Leafs camp while 18-year old defenceman Mark Louis was invited to the Rangers' Prospect Camp in New York.
Day, LeBlanc and Louis will join goalkeeper Tyler Plante and right-winger Ryan Reaves at NHL camps this fall. While Reaves was taken by the St. Louis Blues in the fifth round of last month's NHL Entry Draft in Ottawa, Plante was chosen by the Florida Panthers with the second pick of round number two.
In 67 games this past season, LeBlanc had fourteen goals, 29 points and 86 penalty minutes. Day finished the year with three goals and nine points and 90 penalty minutes in 33 games while Louis played in 64 games, scoring twice and setting up ten others for 12 points.
Wheat Kings' training camp is scheduled to get underway later this month at the Keystone Centre.
