Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y.) - The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the New Britain Bees 4-3 on Wednesday night in the middle game of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.
New Britain opened the scoring in the second inning on a sacrifice fly to center field by Jonathan Galvez. Long Island answered in the fourth, as Taylor Ard's solo home run to left field and Ramon Cabrera's solo homer to right-center off Bees starter Devin Burke put the Ducks in front 2-1.
The Bees took the lead back for good with a three-run sixth against Ducks starter Lorenzo Barcelo. Jason Rogers' RBI single to left and Angelo Songco's two-run homer to right did the damage. Another solo home run, this time by David Washington in the bottom of the sixth, closed the gap to 4-3.
Long Island put the tying and go-ahead runs on base in the eighth and ninth innings but could not pull even.
Burke (4-2) picked up the win, tossing six innings, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five. Barcelo (2-1) took the loss, giving up four runs on six hits over six innings while striking out five. Evan Scribner collected his 22nd save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning.
Washington led the Flock offensively with a pair of hits.
