Trio of Esks earn CFL honours; Esks add O-lineman

Edmonton, AB – Edmonton Eskimos running back John Avery, linebacker A.J. Gass and defensive lineman Steve Charbonneau have been named CFL Players of the Week for Week #13.

Last Saturday in Edmonton's 31-25 win over Saskatchewan, Avery ran for 157 yards and one TD. He also had 52 yards receiving and one kick-off return for 14 yards. It's the second consecutive week that Avery has been named CFL Offensive Player of the Week. Eskimo receiver Terry Vaughn was named runner-up in the Offensive Player category.

Fifth year veteran linebacker A.J. Gass piled up nine defensive tackles against the 'Riders to earn Defensive Player of the Week. He leads the team with 53 defensive tackles. Gass has battled back from two knee surgeries in the last year and is well on his way to his best season as a pro.

CFL Lineman of the Week Steve Charbonneau was a force all afternoon against Saskatchewan, finishing the day with two sacks and three tackles. A six year CFL'er, Charbonneau spent the last five seasons with Montreal. He signed as a free agent with Edmonton July 4, 2002.

The Eskimos announced today the signing of free agent non-import offensive lineman Jake Roberts. A graduate of Simon Fraser University, Roberts was Hamilton's second round selection (16th overall) in the 2002 CFL Canadian College Draft. Roberts was released by Hamilton following training camp.
