On August 13, 2012, we unfortunately lost a great member of our baseball family. The great Johnny Pesky, from Portland, who spent 73 years in professional baseball; 61 years with the Boston Red Sox organization as a player, coach, manager, and team executive, passed into the Arms of GOD.

Johnny was a legend in the world of baseball, and especially among Red Sox fans. The right field foul pole at Fenway Park is named the "Pesky Pole".Johnny became the symbol of the Red Sox for seven decades, and had such a positive impact on so many lives during his rich and blessed life.He played alongside Red Sox greats Ted Williams and Bobby Doerr. His first day with Boston, Ted Williams asked him if he could hit .280.Pesky said, "I can bunt .280, and ended the season hitting .330.

This Friday, August 31st, the Volcanoes will Honor the memory and achievements of Johnny Pesky with a "Johnny Pesky Tribute" Night. Many longtime baseball players and fans will be here, including Johnny's brother, the great Vince Pesky, a New York Yankee organizational player, former player and coach at University of Portland, and member of the Portland Baseball Hall of Fame.

Also, arguably the GREATEST SECOND BASEMAN EVER, Boston Red Sox Hall of Famer, Bobby Doerr, will be here, and will be available for fans to get a very valuable FREE autograph.A true collectible.Bobby played with Johnny Pesky and Ted Williams. In fact, he played his entire 14-year major league career with the Boston Red Sox, was a nine-time American League All-Star, and Boston retired his # 1 jersey; one of only 7 former Red Sox to have their number retired. He was the 1944 American League Player of the Year.Inducted into Baseball's Hall of Fame in 1986, Bobby Doerr is the oldest living Hall of Fame player at 94 years old.
