Syracuse Crunch News Release

Syracuse, NY (August 14, 2006) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today, in conjunction with the Office of the County Executive, that a committee will host a "Tribute to Gary Agnew Night" on Thursday, August 17 from 5:30-8 p.m. at the Oncenter Ballroom.

Onondaga County Executive Nick Pirro, an avid Syracuse Crunch fan and season ticket holder said, "Coach Agnew will truly be a tough pair of skates to fill. He has been a tremendous driving force for the team with his expertise, love of the game and desire to win. But even more importantly, Gary has become a part of our community and has been a most active, dedicated and outstanding community leader."

Agnew, 45, guided the Crunch to their first-ever division and regular season conference championships in 2001-02 and set numerous franchise marks during the 2005-06 season including wins (47) and points (102). His .545 career winning percentage is tops in club history. In 480 career games as head coach of the Crunch, Agnew has 220 wins, 177 losses, 43 ties, 33 overtime losses and 7 shutout losses.

Prior to joining the Crunch, Agnew spent 10 seasons as a head coach in the Ontario Hockey League, the last three with the London Knights. Born in Niagara Falls, Ontario and raised in Montreal, Quebec, Agnew began his coaching career with the London Knights in 1990-91 before moving to the Kingston Frontenacs (OHL) in 1994-95. Agnew returned to the Knights for the 1997-98 season and coached them to a Western Division Title.

In 664 OHL games, Agnew posted a 329-282-53 record. Agnew was named OHL Coach of the Year and First Team All-Star Coach in both 1992-93 and 1997-98 seasons. Before coaching, Agnew played for the University of New Brunswick (CIAU), Fredericton Express (AHL) and Milwaukee Admirals (IHL). He has a Masters' Degree in Coaching from the University of Western Ontario.

Tickets for the "Tribute to Gary Agnew Night" are $25 per person and can be obtained by contacting the Oncenter at 435-2121. As a fitting tribute to his generosity and love of our community, a portion of the proceeds from this event will be given to the Golisano Children's Hospital at University Hospital in the name of Coach Gary Agnew.

Season tickets for the 2006-07 season are now on sale and can be purchased by calling the Crunch office at (315) 473- 4444 or by stopping by the Crunch office in the War Memorial at Oncenter.
