Martins Lands With Wolves

The Chicago Wolves have signed 10-year National Hockey League veteran STEVE MARTINS, a member of the franchise's 1998 Turner Cup Championship team.

The Gatineau, Quebec, native has collected 21 goals, 25 assists, 46 points and 142 penalty minutes in 267 career NHL games with the Hartford Whalers, Carolina Hurricanes, Ottawa Senators, Tampa Bay Lightning, New York Islanders and St. Louis Blues.

MARTINS has skated in parts of two seasons with the Wolves (1997-98 and 2000-01), collecting 21 goals, 43 assists, 64 points and 122 penalty minutes in 83 regular-season games. The 34-year-old forward has also appeared in 37 Turner Cup playoff matchups with Chicago, accruing seven markers and 27 points.

"Steve Martins has all the characteristics of the type of player that we wanted to sign once the beginning of the summer rolled around," said Wolves General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff. "Steve has heart, skill, strong leadership qualities, NHL and American Hockey League experience and has already won a championship with our team. He is a tremendous addition."

Last season, MARTINS shared fifth in the AHL and paced the Binghamton Senators with a career-high 58 assists, and ranked 12th in the league and second on the team with a career-most 80 points. He also shared fifth on the Senators with a career-best 22 goals.

Overall, he has racked up 62 goals, 150 assists, 212 points and 281 penalty minutes in 268 career AHL tilts with Binghamton, the Springfield Falcons, Grand Rapids Griffins and Worcester IceCats.
