Tribe's Easter Dyed Blue in 5-1 Loss to Bats

Indianapolis Indians News Release

INDIANAPOLIS -- Opposing RHP Josh Smith kept the Tribe off-balance throughout the afternoon while his offense mounted a two-out, four-run rally in the second to send the Louisville Bats (9-7) breezing by the Indianapolis Indians (11-5) 5-1 on Easter Sunday at Victory Field. The loss drops Indy to 2-8 in its last 10 home games against the Bats.

Indians starter Jake Brigham matched his counterpart through the first five outs of the game before falling victim to a two-out rally in the top of the second. After retiring the first two Bats of the frame, Indy's starter then allowed each of the next five batters to reach safely on three singles, a double and a walk to help spot Louisville a 4-0 advantage.

Unfortunately for Indianapolis, the four-run lead was more than enough for opposing righty Smith, who mowed through the Tribe's lineup with five strikeouts and just one run on two hits and two walks over his 7.0 dominant innings. The right-hander actually outhit Indians batters through the first three frames of the contest by spinning 3.0 hitless IP and smacking an RBI double of his own in the top of the second.

The Indians finally broke through in the fifth for their only score of the afternoon when Chris McGuiness roped a leadoff double to right, took third on a grounder to second and scored two batters later on a blooped sac fly to right by PH Chase d'Arnaud.
