Louisville Bats News Release

Louisville, KY- The Louisville Bats took on the Indianapolis Indians this afternoon for game two of the two-game series. The early rain delayed the game for thirty-eight minutes. Louisville Slugger Field was filled with students from around Kentuckiana as 7,834 people saw the first of the three Education Days at Slugger Field.

The Bats and Indians came out swinging, both scoring runs in the first inning. Indians' Jeff Salazar connected on a solo shot, putting the Indians ahead 1-0. Then Bats' Jonny Gomes hit a three run homerun, sending home Drew Stubbs and Adam Rosales.

The two-run lead for the Bats didn't last long as the Indians put up seven runs from the third to the fifth inning. The third inning was especially productive for the Indians. Virgil Vazquez, Shelby Ford, and Neil Walker reached with one out to load the bases. After a Jeff Salazar strikeout, Garrett Jones singled to right, scoring Vazquez and Ford, and knotting the game at three. A Steve Pearce single allowed Walker to score and Jones eventually scored on an error by shortstop Adam Rosales, giving the Indians a 5-3 lead.

The Indians then tacked on one more in the fourth and two in the fifth, forcing manager Rick Sweet to go the bullpen and remove RHP Ramon Ramirez.

The Bats' tried to rally in the seventh, scoring three runs. Wilkin Castillo led off with a double and then scored on a Luis Bolivar single. Craig Tatum and Bolivar both scored off an Adam Rosales single. But the Bats couldn't get any closer.

Ramon Ramirez (0-2, 7.65) took the loss for the Bats, going 4.1 innings, allowing seven hits, eight runs, six earned, while walking two and striking out four. He allowed home runs to Salazar and Jones.

Picking up the wins for the Indians was Virgil Vasquez (1-1, 4.37). He wint six innings, allowing only three hits, three earned runs, while walking one and striking out two.

Chris Bootcheck pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth to preserve the win and record his second save of the season.

The Bats will travel to Buffalo for a four-game series starting Thursday, April 30th. Probable starters for Thursday's game are LHP Matt Maloney (2-0. 1.86) for the Bats and LHP Jonathon Niese (0-2, 8.44) for the Buffalo Bisons.
