Boise Hawks News Release

The Boise Hawks (22-20) fell to the Tri-City Dust Devils (18-23) by a final score of 9-6 on Friday night at Memorial Stadium. The Hawks trailed 7-0 going into the 5th inning but their comeback attempt fell just short. The Hawks have now lost three straight games.

Tri-City struck first. In the 1st inning, Grant Little walked and Justin Paulsen doubled to break the scoring open and make it a 1-0 Dust Devils lead. Tri-City tacked on one more in the 1st inning when Olivier Basabe smacked a fly-ball to deep centerfield for a sacrifice fly. It scored Paulsen and the Dust Devils led 2-0.

In the 3rd inning against Hawks starter Justin Valdespina, Tri-City took advantage of a Boise error. Valdespina got the first two outs of the 3rd, but after an error from Terrin Vavra, Boise's shortstop, and an infield single, it allowed Basabe and Williams to get on first and second base. Tre Carter singled for an RBI making the score 3-0, and then it was a two-RBI double for Luis Asuncion to make the score 5-0 Dust Devils. Luis Asuncion capped off the 3rd inning with an RBI double and it was 6-0 Tri-City.

Valdespina finished his night going three innings for the Hawks, allowing six total runs but only two were earned.

Keinter Olivares came into the game in the 4th inning for Boise, and after not allowing a run, he came back in the 5th and gave up a solo home run to Luis Asuncion making it 7-0 Dust Devils.

For Tri-City starter Angel Acevedo, the righty was perfect through the first four innings vs Boise, but he ran into trouble in the 5th inning. The Hawks got it started with an RBI single from Daniel Jipping scoring Danny Edgeworth and Boise was on the board, it was 7-1.

Still in the 5th, with Willie MacIver and Jipping on-base, Hidekel Gonzalez delivered a two-RBI double to make it 7-3 Tri-City. Matt Hearn then singled and scored Gonzalez and the lead was at just 7-4 for the Dust Devils.

Terrin Vavra capped off the 5th with an RBI single to make it a 7-5 game. Tri-City came right back against Olivares. Owen Miller had an RBI single in the 6th to give Tri-City an 8-5 lead.

Olivares finished his night going three innings, allowing two runs. The Hawks got another run in the 6th, when Daniel Jipping singled, it scored MacIver from 2nd base, thanks to an error by the right-fielder Asuncion, and the Dust Devils lead was cut to 8-6.

But Owen Miller got a single in the 8th and Tri-City took a 9-6 lead and they would hang on the rest of the way for the win. Luis Asuncion went 3-5 for Tri-City with 3 RBI, while Boise got a 3-5 night from Matt Hearn at the plate. He also had an RBI and a run-scored.

The Hawks fall to 22-20 on the season, while Tri-City will go to 19-23.
