Tri-City Shuts Out Lake Monsters 6-0 At Centennial On Friday

BURLINGTON, VT --- Preston Tucker hit a three-run homer and added a two-run single for a five-RBI night, while Aaron West allowed just two hits with seven strikeouts over seven innings to lead the Tri-City ValleyCats to a 6-0 shutout victory over the Vermont Lake Monsters in New York-Penn League action Friday night at historic Centennial Field.

Tucker, a seventh-round pick out of the University of Florida and playing in just his third professional game, gave Tri-City a 3-0 lead with a three-run homer in the top of the fourth after Vermont reliever Deyvi Jimenez had walked both Ryan Dineen to leadoff the inning and Jarrod McKinney with one out. The ValleyCats then scored three more runs in the fifth, including a two-out two-run single from Tucker to give Tri-City the 6-0 lead.

West faced just three batters over the minimum in his seven innings to improve to 4-0 on the season with a 0.88 ERA in six starts. Vermont's only hits of the game were a second-inning leadoff single from John Wooten, who was quickly erased on a double play, and a Wilfredo Solano two-out double in the fifth inning. After the Solano double and a hit batter, West and reliever Jamaine Cotten combined to retire the final 13 Lake Monster batters of the game.

Andrew Alpin added had two hits for Tri-City (24-8), which increased its Stedler Division lead to eight games over Vermont. Kris Hall allowed just one hit over the first three innings in his first start for the Lake Monsters after six relief appearances, while Jimenez (0-3) was charged with six runs on four hits with three walks in two innings for the loss.

The Lake Monsters have now lost a season-high four straight games to fall to 16-16 on the season, the first that Vermont has been .500 this season since they were 3-3 on June 23rd.  The series with the ValleyCats continues with games at Tri-City Saturday at 7:00 pm and Sunday at 5:00 pm. The Lake Monsters then return home for another quick two-game homestand against the Lowell Spinners Monday at 7:05 pm and Tuesday at 11:05 am.
