
Trenton Takes Game One Over Akron 3-1

(Akron, OH)- Thunder Starting pitcher Eric Hacker tossed six solid innings to lead Trenton past Akron 3-1 in Game #1 of the Eastern League Championship Series on Tuesday night from Canal Park in Akron, OH. With the win, Trenton has now won all four of its post-season games.
With the game tied at 1-1 in the sixth inning, Trenton scored two runs to take the lead. Shortstop Ramiro Pena led off the inning with a double off of Akron Starting pitcher Kevin Dixon (0-1). Center fielder Austin Jackson followed with a single to put runners at first and third base with no outs. First baseman Chris Malec then lifted a sacrifice fly RBI to give Trenton a 2-1 lead. Later in the frame, Catcher Francisco Cervelli picked up a two-out RBI single to provide an insurance run, and a 3-1 advantage. Malec, who had no hits in the three games against Portland in the Northern Division Championship Series, finished the game 2 x 4 with a double, and two RBI. Cervelli, also didn't have a hit in three games against Portland, picked up two singles and an RBI. Pena finished the game 3 x 5 with a run in the win.
Hacker (2-0) yielded only three hits and one run in six innings. He did not strike out a batter and walked two. He has won both of his playoff starts, and only allowed two runs in two games. Trenton's bullpen tossed three shutout innings, and has now hurled 13 1/3 shutout innings in the playoffs. Thunder reliever Michael Dunn struck out three in 1 1/3 innings, and Jhonny Nunez pitched the final 1 2/3 innings for his second save of the post-season. Dixon allowed five hits and three runs in 5 2/3 innings to take the loss. Trenton took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single by Malec. Akron tied the game in the third inning on an RBI double by Second baseman Josh Rodriguez.
Trenton and Akron play Game #2 of the ELCS on Wednesday night from Canal Park in Akron, OH. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. RHP Christian Garcia will make his post-season debut for the Thunder against Akron RHP J.D. Martin (0-1, 5.40).
