Macon Trax News Release
[MACON, Ga.] â The Macon Trax failed in their attempt to win their fifth game in a row on home ice. Fayetteville came to Georgia and left with a 5-3 victory.
The FireAntz (11-13) got on the board early and never looked back. Sean Edwards and Josh Gibson put home two goals for the visitors before the first period was half over. As the first twenty minutes ended the Trax managed only nine shots on net and Tom Wilson took a late penalty forcing the Trax to start shorthanded to begin the second frame.
Fayetteville capitalized on the power play just 52 seconds into the second period. Tyler Perry put a Steve Roberts rebound in the back of the Trax net to extend the lead to three goals.
The Trax (14-11) fought back in the middle period much to the delight of the home crowd. Steve Zoryk put the Trax on the board with a power play goal at 2:34. Art Mnatsakanov earned his first of two assists when he fired the show towards the Fayetteville net. Zoryk got enough of his stick on the puck to redirect it into the net.
The second period continued in a very quiet fashion. Craig Miller brought the crowd back to life at 12:54 when he fired a shot over goalie Chad Collins's shoulder cutting the Antz lead to one. Unfortunately for the Trax that would be the closest they got.
Roberts and Caleb Moffat would add insurance goals in the third period for Fayetteville while Chris Duggan was the lone goal scorer for the Trax. Collins had his second strong game of the season against Macon making 29 saves to earn his eleventh victory of the season.
The Trax will start a three game in three night stretch Thursday in Jacksonville. Macon will return to home ice Friday night against Knoxville and Saturday night when Columbus comes calling. All games start at 7:05 pm. Call the Trax office at 478-742-4TIX to reserve your seat at the Macon Centreplex. All Trax broadcasts can be heard on Talk Radio 1670 WMWR starting 15 minutes before the puck drop.
