Trax lose tough one
February 7, 2004 - SPHL (SPHL)
Macon Trax News Release
[Pelham, Ala.]âFor the second night in a row the Trax and Slammers battled to a 3-2 game. Unlike last night the Slammers were able to come out on top.
The Trax got off to a slow start as Alabama scored two goals in the first period. Local star Hugo Belanger ripped a shot past Trax goalie Andy Kollar at the 5:32 mark of the opening period.
Mike Craigen extended the lead for the home team late in the first period. After both coaches talked to their teams in the locker room, it was Alabama who came out firing on all cylinders.
Lawrence got his second point of the night as he beat Kollar for his 22nd goal of the season. The next 15 minutes of the second period saw a lot of hitting along the boards and dumping- ins by both teams.
The Trax were given their first power play of the period 14 minutes in. This is exactly what the Trax needed.
After keeping the puck in the zone the entire power play, they finally lit the lamp. Andrew Dickson took a slap shot from the blue line and Steve Zoryk redirected it into the net.
As the Trax came out two goals down heading into the final frame they had "comeback" on their mind. Craig Miller found the net for the 17th time this season when he got a nice feed from Luke Murphy.
After the second goal Macon looked like a whole new team. There was a sudden jump in the step, something Tommy Stewart's squad was lacking most of the night.
The Trax spent most of the final five minutes in the Slammers zone, but could not get the puck past Slammers' goalie Jamie Ronayne. Ronayne closed the game with 30 saves for his tenth victory of the season.
These two teams will face off one more time in Pelham, Ala. Thursday, Feb. 11 the Trax will return for the third game in this battle. Puck drops at 7:05 CST. The game can be heard around the world on www.irn.fm. Join Adam Minnick 15minutes before puck drop for the exciting action.
