Macon Trax News Release

[Macon Ga.]—For the sixth time in a row the Trax dropped a game. The Miami Manatees won for the first time ever in Macon, 4-1.

The Trax David Deeves scored the game's first goal 12:04 into the game. Going into the game the Trax (13-13-5, 31 points) had yet to lose a match when scoring first. Unfortunately the rest of the game belonged to Miami (18-10-3, 39 points).

Only three minutes after the Trax scored, Miami tied the game up from Tom Perry's stick. With under a minute remaining in the opening frame Kevin Swider netted his fourteenth goal of the year. The Manatees took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission and never looked back.

The second period saw both teams with chances to score, but the goalies stole the show. Trax goalie Geoff Faulkner made 20 saves in the middle period while his counterpart Sean Weaver stopped all 10 of the Trax shots.

The third period started with a bang if you are a Manatees fan. Josh Leibenow scored his fifth goal of the year to extend the Miami lead to two goals. After Zdnek Vanc scored the final goal of the night, things got ugly on the ice.

Fans who love to see fights were treated to an exciting seven minute span. Starting off the fisticuffs was Trax tough man Andrew Katzberg and Manatees' Liam McCarthy. While the fight did not see many punches it set the tone for the middle of the third period.

At the 8:42 mark of the final frame the game got surprising. Darren Cain and Edna Welch dropped the gloves in the battle of 5'8" forwards. It was Cain's second fight of the season while Welch squared off for the first time. Welch scored the knockout and brought some life to the 1,128 fans that were at the Centreplex.

The last fight of the night was between two heavyweights. Ryan Rivard and Darcy Johnson danced around center ice before Rivard pulled the jersey over Johnson's head and sent Miami's tough man to the ice.

The Trax will have their rematch chance tomorrow night on home ice against the same Manatees. The puck drop is scheduled for 7:35 pm on "Army Night." All Army personnel can buy upper level tickets for only five dollars.
