March 9, 2005 - SPHL (SPHL)
Macon Trax News Release

[Macon, Ga.] – The Macon Trax normally play with fifteen skaters and two goalies during their SPHL games but tonight they were shorthanded and played with only twelve skaters and two goalies. With first place Knoxville in town and having limited success against the Ice Bears, the Trax had a tough task ahead of them.

The Trax were up to the challenge as they logged a 7-6 overtime victory tonight. The win places Macon in a three-way tie for second place in the Southern Professional Hockey League. The Trax are sharing their position with Jacksonville Barracudas and Fayetteville FireAntz. All three teams have six games remaining in their respective regular season schedules.

The Trax came out strong in the first period scoring two goals and taking a 2-0 lead into the intermission. The first period goals were scored by Mark Allen and Ryan Rivard. The Trax out shot the visiting Ice Bears 15-8 and controlled the play throughout the period.

In the second period, Mark Allen got things started by scoring his second goal of the game and fourteenth of the season at the 13:38 mark. K.J. Voorhees scored late in the period to make the score 3-1 going into the second intermission. Both teams had nine shots on goal in the period.

The third period brought a frenzy of goals as Knoxville scored five goals in the period and Macon countered with three of their own. The last of Knoxville's goals on the night was the equalizer scored by K.C. Caudill at 18:26 of the final period of regulation making the score 6-6.

David Deeves broke loose in the overtime period and received a beautiful pass from Mark Allen to score the game winning goal at 2:08 of the extra stanza. This win brings the Trax record to 28-22 and into a tie for second place. When asked what he thought about the game, Tommy Stewart said, "It was a great game for the fans but a nightmare for the coach. The important thing is that we came up with the important two points especially against a team that we have struggled against all year."

Mark Allen had a career night as he ended the game with two goals and three assists. He was all over the place. Terry Denike had the win as the Trax goaltender and made thirty saves on thirty-six shots. This was Denike's tenth win of the season with the Trax.

The Trax next home game will be Friday, March 11, as the Macon Trax and Transwestern Publishing have teamed up to provide fans with "Team Poster Night". The first 3000 fans will receive a beautiful limited edition team poster compliments of Transwestern Publishing. Fans can take their team poster to the "post-game" party to be held at Francar's Buffalo Wings for an autograph session. Francar's is located at 4376 Log Cabin Drive, near Target in Macon. The Huntsville Havoc will be the Trax opponent as the puck drops at 7:05 PM.
