Macon Trax News Release
[Macon, Ga.]âThere are some players the Macon hockey fans have loved to hate. These are players fans would love on their own team but hate when they have to play against them. Tom Wilson has been that player while playing for the Columbus Cottonmouths and Alabama Slammers; now he is a member of the Macon Trax.
Head Coach Tommy Stewart signed his most surprising player of the off-season, so far. Wilson will come to Macon and anchor the defense that Stewart has been working hard to upgrade.
"It was no secret last season our defense was the weakest part of the team." said Stewart, "By adding a veteran like Tom I think this will help the young defensemen we have coming to camp, plus we now have one of the toughest players in the league."
Wilson is known as a defense first player and does not often get involved in the scoring. Most Trax fans know this is a perfect fit as Stewart rarely asks his defenseman to carry the scoring load.
By signing Wilson the Trax are now at the league's three veteran limit. The Toronto, Ont. native has played in 465 games over the last ten seasons. The 6'1", 205-pound defenseman has scored 81 points (22G, 59A) while collected 1816 penalty minutes.
"Wilson was always tough when I played against him." said Trax General Manager Joe Suk, "Last year we have a hockey club with great finesse but could also play a physical game, Wilson will definitely set a physical tone this season.
The Trax newest defenseman will not have to wait very long to see his old team located in Western Georgia. The Trax will face off versus the Cottonmouths on October 30, the second game of the season. As he returns to his old home, he will be welcomed by many of the Macon Trax fans expected to attend the game as Wilson will now wear the more favorable colors of Black and Gold instead of the enemy's colors.
Make sure to reserve your season ticket and single game tickets for the 2004-05 season. The Trax open their home schedule on November 20 against the Columbus Cottonmouths. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Trax office at (478) 742-4849. Season tickets start as low as $99 and single game tickets are only $6.
