Arkansas Travelers News Release
NORTH LITTLE ROCK - A four-run rally broke a scoreless tie and helped the Arkansas Travelers to a 6-1 victory over the Corpus Christi Hooks on Friday night at Dickey-Stephens Park. The Travs sent eight batters to the plate in the third inning which was highlighted by a three-run homer (5) by Paul McAnulty. Casey Haerther doubled and singles plus scored two runs to help the Travs take 2-of-3 from the Hooks.
The Travs improve to 27-26 in the second half, but remain 8.5 games behind Springfield for the division lead.
Orangel Arenas (5-9) earned the win with 5.2 effective innings defeating Hooks lefty Rob Rasmussen (4-3)
The Travs got to Rasmussen in the third inning sending eight batters to the plate in a four-run rally. Rasmussen made a couple of mistakes with two strike counts hitting Angel Castillo then allowing a single to Darwin Perez. After the first out, McAnulty hit a rope into the right-field corner over the fence for a three-run shot and a 3-0 lead. Haerther followed with a double to left-center and came home when Renny Osuna grounded a single to center.
Rasmussen continued and retired the next seven batters before exiting before the sixth inning when Adalberto Flores relieved and was greeted by a leadoff single from Haerther. After a pair of strikeouts, Haerther advanced to second on a passed ball charged to Jay Fernandez and scored when Carlos Ramirez singled to right-center for a 5-1 lead. Angel Castillo then ripped a hanging curveball for a double to the left-field corner for a 6-1 lead.
Arenas bounced back nicely after four rough outings in a row where he'd allowed 18 runs in 22.1 innings. The Hooks didn't score until the sixth and stranded five runners in the first three innings. He struck out two batters in the first inning including Bobby Borchering for the third out leaving two runners. Most of Arenas's night went that way without any perfect innings. He finished 5.2 innings allowing six hits and a run while striking out seven batters against three walks.
Osuna injured the index finger on his left hand diving for a ground ball his by Ben Orloff in the fifth inning. Osuna had to leave the game and is expected to undergo x-rays after dislocating the finger. Ramirez caught Orloff stealing second base though and Arenas struck out Robbie Grossman and George Springer to end the frame.
Arenas issued a walk to begin the sixth inning putting Jacob Goebbert on base. He advanced to second when Borchering grounded to shortstop and scored when Adam Bailey doubled to center field. Ryan Chaffee came on in relief and got Jay Fernandez to foul out on one pitch to end the inning with a 4-1 Travs lead.
A rain delay started at 9:17 p.m. during the Travs' sixth inning with Darwin Perez batting. After a 1:48 delay the game resumed and the score never changed. The Travs used Buddy Boshers for two innings of relief before Kevin Johnson closed the game.
Time of game was 4:35 and the paid attendance was 5,593.
The Travs now host San Antonio on Saturday night with first pitch set for 7:30 p.m.
