Springdale, Arkansas - Chris Dwyer struck out 10 batters and the Northwest Arkansas Naturals took advantage of spotty defense for a 6-2 victory over the Arkansas Travelers on Friday night at Arvest Ballpark.
Errors by Darwin Perez and Luis Jimenez led to four unearned runs including three on a home run by Naturals right fielder Wil Myers (5).
Dwyer (6-9) won his fourth consecutive start
and combined with Edgar Garcia (2nd save) to whiff 13 batters.
The Travs fall to 18-23 in the second half (54-54 overall) with their 19th loss in 26 games.
It's the fifth consecutive loss to the first-place Naturals who improve to 22-19 in the second half (57-51 overall).
Orangel Arenas (8-6) took the loss with only one earned run out of five total runs allowed in six innings.
Arenas walked three and struck out three in falling to 2-3 against NW Arkansas.
Anthony Seratelli bunted for a single to begin the Naturals second inning then took base when Nick Francis chopped a base hit into left field.
Ryan Eigsti poked a single to left field with two outs scoring Seratelli to give NWA a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the third inning Darwin Perez booted a routine ground ball to shortstop by Jamie Romak for a two-out error.
Arenas followed with a four-pitch walk to Anthony Seratelli which was followed by Wil Myers' line drive homer to left field for a 4-0 Naturals advantage.
The Travs scored their only runs in the fourth inning as Gabe Jacobo hit a one-out double then advanced to third base when Roberto Lopez's line drive popped out of Myers glove after a dive attempt in right field putting runners at second and third base.
Both scored when Alberto Rosario hit a smash that second baseman Christian Colon stopped, but threw wildly on for a base hit and an error getting the Travs within a 4-2 score.
Dwyer responded by retiring the last seven batters he faced including four of them on strikes.
Nick Francis reached with one out in the sixth inning when his grounder went between Jimenez's legs for an error.
