Travs Ride Pitching to Road Win in Frisco Jun 5th 2017, 04:03
Frisco, TX-The Arkansas Travelers salvaged the final game of the series in Frisco behind a stellar pitching effort in a 3-1 victory Sunday night.
Tyler Herb set the tone for the night pitching six scoreless innings in the start. Herb battled through nine baserunners (five hits, four walks) but induced a pair of timely double play balls and struck out two RoughRiders as well. He earned the win to improve to 4-2 on the year. Zac Curtis mowed down three hitters in the ninth racking up three strikeouts on just 11 pitches (all strikes) to notch his sixth save. Blake Perry was the bridge in the middle spanning the seventh and eighth innings while punching out three Frisco hitters of his own.
The Trav offense struck in the 2nd inning as they loaded the bases with no one out and capitalized when Nelson Ward drew a walk to force in a run. They added to the lead in the fourth on a two out single from Jeff Kobernus scoring Ward and Joey Wong . For the game, Arkansas registered 10 hits.
Ward paced the offense with a perfect night going 2-2 with a double, run scored, RBI and a pair walks. Keuery De La Cruz and Kobernus each knocked two hits as well with both players recording a double.
Frisco starter Connor Sadzeck (3-4) was the losing pitcher surrendering three runs on eight hits over five innings.
After an off day tomorrow the Travs return home to Dickey-Stephens Park on Tuesday night to begin a four game series and homestand against the Tulsa Drillers. Right-hander Lindsey Caughel (3-6, 5.77) gets the ball for Arkansas opposing righty Scott Barlow (2-2, 2.44) for Tulsa. First pitch is at 7:10 and it is AR 529 Baseball Bingo and a Zoosday Tuesday. The game will also be broadcast on the Sports Animal 920, the First Pitch App, TuneIn radio and milb.tv.
